The 2012 IWFL National Champions Montreal Blitz hosted the New England Intensity this past Saturday. The Blitz had not lost a regular season game since 2009.
Montreal started the game with the ball, but New England’s defense forced a 3 and out and the rest of the first quarter was good defensive football by both teams. 0-0 end of first quarter
On the first play of the 2nd quarter, Blitz had the ball on the Intensity 42 yd line. QB, Saadia Ashraf, threw a dump pass to RB, Lya Jolicoeur, who broke several tackles and ran the ball in for the first touchdown of the game. PAT attempt is good. 7-0
Intensity was forced to punt on the following possession from their own 33 yd line. Ball was received by WR, Virginie Roussel, at her own 42 yd line and returned the punt all the way down to the Intensity 20 yard line. On the very next play Saadia hit WR, Laurence Pointbriand, in the end zone for the 2nd touchdown of the game. PAT attempt was blocked. 13-0
Late in the 2nd quarter, Intensity was successfully moving the ball down the field. They brought the ball all the way down to the Montreal 10 yd line, but ran out of time-outs and the clock was running. Intensity was forced to spike the ball and attempt a FG by K, Jamie Naylor. The attempt was no good.
Score at the end of the half: Montreal 13, New England 0
Intensity stepped up their running game in the 2nd half allowing their defense some time to rest. Early in the 3rd quarter the Intensity successfully moved the ball down the field and found themselves on the Montreal 20 yd line. QB, Christine Sampson attempts to connect with TE Kate Slack but Montreal’s OLB ends up with the INT.
New England’s defense steps up big again and shuts Montreal’s offense down.
Late in the 3rd, the Intensity offense returns to its solid running game and is able to drive the ball down the field to the Montreal 25 yd line. On the first play of the 4th quarter, Sampson hits TB Lisa Vincent on a swing route and she darts down the sideline and into the end zone for Intensity’s first score of the game. PAT attempted by K, Jamie Naylor is good. 13-7
Intensity’s tough defense forces another Montreal punt and New England has the ball on their own 25 yd line to start the series. The Intensity’s offensive line kept creating holes for TB Xiomara Diaz who ran hard all game. The Intensity find themselves on the Montreal 22 yd line late in the 4th quarter. Diaz finds another hole and breaks a few tackles to score the 2nd touchdown of the game for New England. PAT attempted by K, Jamie Naylor is good. 14-13
Both teams had another chance with the ball, but were forced to punt. Montreal had a final opportunity with a few minutes left in the game, but once again, Intensity’s defense came up big. OLB, Lisa Vincent sacked the QB on 2nd down & 4, creating a 3rd down & 10 for the Blitz. Montreal got back 4 of those yards on 3rd down, but was faced with 4th down & 6. The Blitz threw up a pass only to be intercepted by S, Rachel Toal with just over 90 seconds to play. The Intensity was able to run a few plays and take a knee to end the game.
