LORI JOHNSON BREAKS PASSION RECEIVING RECORD WITH 83 YARD TOUCHDOWN PASS RECEPTION

Pittsburgh, PA. The Pittsburgh Passion, members of the Independent Women’s Football League, continued their winning ways with a win over the Boston Militia. The Passion received the opening kick and used a methodical 9 play, 68 yard drive, in which they intertwined the run and the pass to open a 7-0 lead. RB Lyndsi Hughes began the scoring with an 8 yard run around the outside to get Pittsburgh on the board. On Boston’s second offensive play, LB Jo Jo Warner who finished the game with nine tackles caused and recovered a fumble, but Pittsburgh was unable to advance the football. LB Jen Dulski was able to intercept a pass from Militia QB Allison Cahill which led to Lyndsi’s 2nd touchdown of the game and a 14-0 Pittsburgh advantage. Early in the 2nd quarter, Pittsburgh found themselves with a 3rd and long from their own 17 yard line. QB Lisa Horton was able to connect with WR Lori Johnson on a slant pattern for an 83 yard touchdown pass, making a new Passion record previously held by WR Wilma Walton. The Passion had a comfortable 21 point lead at the half.

The Force Take Care of the 'First'

MADISON, WI. If you would have told any of the fans, referees, coaches, or players on the field last Saturday at Breitenbach Stadium that it was a night in April, chances are no one would have believed you. Just as the National Anthem was being sung, a wintry snow blizzard blew in from the north and covered the field in a sheet of white. The weather conditions made it tough to grip the ball, or run without sliding. The game wasn’t very pretty or easy as there was no quit in a good Wisconsin Wolves team. When the final horn sounded to end the game, the Force posted a 14-7 win to go 1-0 on the young season.

Women a Significant Part of Football's Family Portrait

By Matt Molina, USA Football
It’s a common stereotype that while men are watching football on TV, women are in a separate room watching something like Simon Cowell from American Idol making some poor kid cry. A common notion is that women would rather dissect an actress’ wardrobe on Oscar night than break down a well-executed screen pass.

However, the growing popularity of football isn’t solely attributed to men; women are a significant part of the game. In fact, in 2008, the number of women who tuned in to watch the New York Giants win Super Bowl XLII doubled the number watching the Academy Awards three weeks later.
