Rhode Island Intensity Join IWFL by Kezia Disney January 29, 2004 AUSTIN, TX - January 29, 2004 - The Independent Women's Football League is proud to announce that Tara Cramer and the Rhode Island Intensity has been awarded an X-team license and will join the league’s growing roster of teams for the 2004 season. The Intensity will be placed in the highly competitive IWFL Eastern Conference.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this great league! The IWFL offers women of all different backgrounds the chance to come together and play a sport they could previously only watch from the sidelines”, said Tara Cramer, “The Rhode Island Intensity will definitely strive to make Rhode Island proud of their only women’s pro-tackle football team”.
“The level of competition in the East is known around the country. The Intensity is comprised of veteran athletes and professional management”, said Kezia Disney, IWFL Conference Director, “This team will definitely be one to watch in 2004”.
The Rhode Island Intensity is looking for athletic women that feel they can contribute not only on the field, but off the field as well. The Intensity is very interested in working with the Rhode Island Community, as strong role models for today’s youth, especially young women. “We want to show girls growing up in today’s world that they can be anything they want to be, regardless of looks, size or previously stereotyped men’s roles. We want girls to think “out of the box” and to not feel limited by any barriers”, Cramer states.
Founded in 2000, the IWFL is a member organization of team owners created to support the new sport of women's tackle football. The IWFL enables its member teams to function independently, focusing on their local markets while combining resources and strategies for the successful marketing and promotion of women's football.
The IWFL is home to the most successful and talented women’s football teams in the United States. New teams undergo extensive background checks and interviews before being admitted to the league. This process ensures the level of play remains high for the fans and enables the IWFL to continue to set the standard as America’s number one women’s football league.
