MAYHEM SCHEDULE OPEN TRYOUTS
ORLANDO, Fla. (October 7, 2006) -- The Orlando Mayhem have scheduled a pair of open tryout camps for prospective players for the 2007 Women's Tackle Football Team, a member of the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL). The tryouts will be held on Sunday November 12th and Sunday Dec. 10th at Cypress Creek HS in South Orlando.
The tryouts will consist of the 40-yard dash, 10-yard short shuttle, and individual and team non-contact drills by position. Registration will begin at 10 a.m., with the tryouts beginning promptly at 11 a.m. The tryouts will be held rain or shine.
“It's my opinion that there are quality female athletes in the Orlando area who would make excellent football players that tend to slip through the cracks,” Orlando Mayhem's head coach Richard White said. “These open tryout give those ladies an opportunity to get noticed by our coaching staff, and become a part of history by playing for the Mayhem, a member of the industry leading IWFL women's tackle football league."
The open Tryout Camp is for all positions, including quarterbacks, running backs, fullback/linebackers, wide receiver/defensive backs, offensive/defensive linemen and kickers. All participants will be required to sign an injury waiver form. There is a one time, non-refundable $10 fee to cover the costs of the tryout. Prospective players should come dressed in shorts, t-shirt and grass cleats and must bring photo ID and proof of insurance. No equipment will be provided. Q: When are the tryouts for the 2007 Season?
A: The Mayhem will hold two open free agent tryouts for the 2007 season. The first will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12th at Cypress Creek HS and the second will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10th. For directions contact the Mayhem staff or visit map quest or any other Internet search engine for directions.
Q: What time do the tryouts start?
A: Registration for each tryout begins at 10 a.m. with the tryouts beginning at 11 a.m.
Q: How long do the tryouts last?
A: Generally speaking the tryouts will last approximately three hours.
Q: What are the eligibility requirements?
A: The open tryout is for all athletes, age 18 or older. Participants registered with any other IWFL football teams must show release.
Q: What positions are you looking for?
A: The tryout is for all Football positions, including quarterback, running backs, fullback/linebacker, offensive/defensive lineman, wide receiver/defensive back and kickers.
Q: What should I wear?
A: The tryouts will be held on a grass field. It is suggested that athletes wear shorts, t-shirt and grass cleats. No equipment will be provided.
Q: Why is there a tryout fee?
A: A fee is charged to help the Mayhem cover the cost of the tryout camps, including field rental, trainers, registration workers, timers, etc.
Q: Do I need previous experience?
A: No. Essentially we are looking for females with the ability to play at a competitive level. While some current IWFL players have previous football experience, it is not required. The Coaching staff will teach all players complete football skills, starting with the basics.
Q: What is the tryout format?
A: You will be tested in the 40-yard dash and 10-yard short shuttle and various individual and team non-contact drills by position.
Q: If I tryout am I guaranteed a spot on the Mayhem roster?
A: You are competing for a spot on the Orlando Mayhem pre-season roster. If qualified, you will be invited to training camp in January.
Q: Are there any positions in particular that you are looking to fill?
A: The Orlando Mayhem are currently seeking players at every position.
Q: Is there an age limit?
A: No limit, however, Prospective players must be a minimum of 18-years-of-age to participate with proof of insurance.
Q: When does the season start, and how many games do you play?
A: The Season will begin on Saturday April 28th. The season consists of 8 regular season games held on Saturdays, with post-season play immediately following. The 2007 schedule will be posted on the website once it is officially released.
